Magnesium oxysulfate cleanroom panels — a sandwich composite whose core is a monolithic inorganic board formed by reacting active magnesium oxide (MgO) with magnesium sulfate (MgSO₄) solution, modified with fillers and reinforced with alkali-resistant glass-fiber mesh. The cured core is rigid, dimensionally stable, low-halogen and A1 non-combustible. Face skins are PVDF-coated galvalume, pre-painted steel or 304/316L stainless. There is no fibrous layer inside.
Silicate panels — a sandwich composite whose core is a calcium silicate board (CaSiO₃, formed from silica sand + lime under high-pressure steam cure) or a potassium silicate board. The cured core is also rigid, A1 non-combustible, but denser, harder and more brittle than MgO-MgSO₄. Face skins are typically color steel or stainless. No fibrous layer inside either.
⚠️ Industry misconception: "Both are inorganic A1 boards, so they perform the same in a cleanroom." Wrong. Fire classification measures reaction to fire. It does not measure chloride migration, long-term moisture cycling, screw-hold degradation, field machinability or 10-year dimensional stability under GMP operating cycles. Same A1 label, completely different service envelope.
